You need

  • A zip-top bag
  • A damp paper towel
  • 2–3 dry beans (lima beans work well)
  • Tape and a sunny window

Let's play

  1. Fold the damp paper towel and slide it into the bag.
  2. Tuck the beans between the towel and the bag so you can see them.
  3. Tape the bag to a sunny window.
  4. Check every day. Watch the root go down and the sprout come up!
Grown-up tip: Use the Bean Plant Diary printable. Dry beans are a choking hazard, so a grown-up handles them with little ones.
